Meet Zev.
He is with Lynn wherever she goes. He is cute, loyal and lovable. But as a service dog, Zev plays a much bigger role in Lynn’s life, including carrying a multitude of supplies for trips to the bathroom. You can read about each of the items in inside Zev’s pack below. Now imagine trying to manage all of this in a teeny tiny stall without, for starters, a shelf? Where would you lay out your supplies? How would you wash your hands? Dispose of a needle?
Lynn’s Supplies
1. feeding bag: Holds formula (nutrition)
2. Zofran: anti-nausea medication
3. Gastric tube: used to connect the gastric bag to the button on Lynn’s abdomen
4. Catheter kit: for emptying the bladder
5. Ostomy belt: secures the ostomy bag
6. Ostomy wafer: base stuck on to the abdomen from which an ostomy bag is then attached
7. Asthma inhaler
8 . Alcohol wipes: to sterilize the end of the feeding tube, if it falls out
9. Surgical gloves
10. Jejunal tube: used to connect the feeding bag to the button on Lynn’s abdomen
11. Adhesive remover wipes: removes old adhesive from where the wafer was affixed.
12. Skin prep wipes: gives skin a sticky surface to help the wafer stick better and protects skin from the adhesive on the wafer.
13. Gastric bag: relieves the stomach from air and its contents if the patient does have the ability to vomit or burp
14. Syringe: used to flush gastric and jejunal tube
15. Ostomy bag: holds digestive waste from an ileostomy (opening in the abdomen)
16. Stoma powder: powder sprinkled around the ileostomy prior to using the skin prep wipes to protect the skin
17 Epipen: for severe allergic reactions
